Hilary Sanders – Herne Hill, SE24
I am an experienced couple and individual counsellor/therapist and have been working in private practice for many years. I was trained in and work in a psychodynamic way, looking at how patterns of behaviour developed from earlier experiences may be influencing present behaviours, producing a sense of stuckness or repetitive patterns. Together we can reflect on where the origins of the behaviours may be and work on how you can become more conscious of reactive systems, so that you begin to have greater choice to decide on how you wish to behave and how you interact with others.
Difficulties may arise around all manner of here and now problems, such as depression, having children, not having children, lack of sex, affairs, bereavements, retirements and redundancies, work pressures or simply boredom. But nothing is ever simple and all current emotions will have a beginning elsewhere. In the work, it may be possible to look at ways to change old patterns and the beliefs or traumatic events that drive them, to enable more choice of response to people, to connections and challenges and an enhanced sense and inhabitation of self.
I trained with London Marriage Guidance and have a Diploma in Couple Counselling. I did a further Foundation course in Psychosexual Couple Work at the Tavistock. I continue to develop my practice with regular courses and training and professional groups. I am a member of BACP.
I work with couples and with individuals on whatever issues we need to look at.
